General Description
The JBL L100 Classic MkII-BK is a 3-way passive bookshelf speaker that updates a JBL Classic Series icon with contemporary acoustic solutions. The BK variant features a black Quadrex foam grille and a natural walnut veneer cabinet with a satin finish, a sober and elegant combination that maintains the historical character of the L100 without losing visual integration in modern hi-fi systems, listening rooms, and home studios.
The transducer array consists of a 12-inch woofer with a white Pure Pulp cone, cast frame, and dual spider; a 5.25-inch midrange driver with a polymer-coated Pure Pulp cone; and a 1-inch titanium dome tweeter with an acoustic lens and waveguide. Working as a 3-way system, each section handles a region of the sound spectrum to reproduce expansive bass, voices and instruments with presence, and detailed highs.
The L100 Classic MkII works with a recommended amplification of 25 to 200 W RMS, 4 ohms impedance, and 90 dB sensitivity. Its separate crossover allows for bi-wire or bi-amp configurations via two pairs of gold-plated binding posts. Additionally, it incorporates level attenuators for the midrange and high-frequency sections, useful for adjusting the tonal balance to the speaker placement and room acoustics. It is a passive speaker and requires an external compatible amplifier or receiver. JBL recommends complementing it with JS-120 or JS-150 stands, available separately.
